All of our residential services operate under the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) licensing requirements. We are also contracted under Sunny Haven Residential Services, which means we follow both DBHDS and SHRS guidelines to ensure quality and compliance.

We provide 24/7 staffing with trained Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Supports can include help with daily living skills, medication administration, health and safety, transportation, and community integration. Each individual’s level of support is based on their Person-Centered Individualized Service Plan (ISP).

All medications are securely stored and administered by trained staff in accordance with DBHDS regulations. Medication Administration Records (MARs) are maintained and audited regularly.

Individuals contribute toward their room and board, often through SSI or other approved income sources, in alignment with DBHDS and Medicaid waiver guidelines. At Copper Ridge Support Services (CRSS), rent is due on the 3rd of each month. Payments can be made by check or securely online through the monthly invoice sent by CRSS. Receipts of payment are sent via email directly to the individual or their guardian for documentation and transparency. Our team works closely with individuals and guardians to ensure all payments are handled clearly and appropriately.

All staff are trained to DBHDS standards, including CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, Crisis Prevention & Intervention, Therapeutic Options, and specialized health supports. Ongoing annual training ensures staff remain current and competent.

Yes! Each person is encouraged to make their bedroom their own by decorating and furnishing it to their taste, as long as safety standards are met.

We strongly believe in community integration. Individuals are supported in attending outings, volunteering, shopping, dining, and recreational activities, based on their preferences and goals.

Menus are created by CRSS, taking into account dietary needs, personal preferences, and DBHDS nutrition requirements. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at the same times each day to promote consistency and routine for individuals. If an individual chooses not to eat at the scheduled time, this is documented, and they are supported to eat later when they wish. Staff assist with meal preparation and encourage individuals to participate in cooking and kitchen tasks to build independence and life skills.

Guardians receive regular updates on their loved one’s progress, health, and any incidents. At Copper Ridge Support Services (CRSS), we send a monthly update email to guardians, regardless of the level of ongoing communication, so families can count on a consistent update every month. We also encourage open communication at any time through phone, email, or scheduled meetings with our team.

Each home is equipped with emergency kits, evacuation plans, and first aid supplies. Staff are trained in crisis response and follow DBHDS emergency preparedness guidelines. Guardians are contacted promptly in emergencies.

Behavioral supports are guided by the individual’s ISP and may include positive behavioral strategies, Therapeutic Options techniques, and collaboration with support coordinators.

Yes. Individuals may have visitors or visit family, as long as it is in line with their ISP and safety guidelines. CRSS does have guidelines we request to be followed for visitors to ensure the privacy and rights of all individuals are being met. We encourage family & community involvement.

House expectations (such as shared chores, respecting others’ privacy, and safety protocols) are reviewed with each resident. Rules are kept simple and are meant to promote fairness, safety, and respect.

Individuals may bring personal belongings, furniture, and electronics, as long as items are safe and do not pose hazards. Staff will review guidelines with families during move-in.

Homes are staffed at all times, with locked medication storage, emergency preparedness, and routine safety checks. DBHDS conducts inspections, and we maintain internal audits for compliance and quality assurance.

DLCV services include information and referral, legal representation, technical assistance, short-term assistance, systemic advocacy, monitoring and training. Their services are provided free of charge and are independent from state and local government.

Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) are types of person-centered care delivered in the home and community. A variety of health and human services can be provided. HCBS programs address the needs of people with functional limitations who need assistance with everyday activities, like getting dressed or bathing.
